Dear members and friends of the Japan-Norway Society,

On June 21 2018, the J-NS will host a new "Business Benkyokai" (mini-seminar) with the title:

"Japan and Norway cooperating for a sustainable future in shipping".

This is part of our series of events focusing on presentations and lectures on Japan-Norway related business topics. The aim for JNS is to create an arena to increase your professional knowledge, as well as meet and make both new acquaintances and potential business partners.

On this occasion, we address the status in the shipping industry and the options for adapting to new regulations in Green House Gass (GHG) emissions and the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) roadmap on the topic, in addition the coming "2020 Sulfur Cap". We hope to explore and discuss what business opportunities Norway and Japan have concerning this. We are lucky to have the regulatory institutions, shipyards, ship owners as well as technology and business experts talking on this occasion.

Mr. Christos Chryssakis, Ph.D. and Business Development Manager at DNV GL, will talk about the regulatory changes up to 2020, the so-called "sulfur cap" and further into the future that is towards 2050 and “low carbon shipping”.

Mr. Sveinung Oftedal, specialist director in the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. Mr. Oftedal has been Norway’s representative in the IMO negotiations leading to the ambitious strategy for reducing GHG emissions from ships. Mr. Oftedal will give us an intro to the strategy and what is to come.

Mr. Ragnar Hansen from Oshima shipyard will present the company and their activities on innovation and technology and the possibility of cooperation between Norway and Japan going forwards.

Mr. Karl Terjesen, Managing Director of Gram Car Carriers AS. Mr. Terjesen has extensive experience from Japan and will introduce the Gram Car Carriers as well as give his views on the Japan-Norway relation in shipping.
